Floor heating guide

How long does floor heating last?

Short answer

The pipe in a hydronic system is made to last as long as the building: quality multilayer and PEX pipe is designed for a service life of 50 years or more. Pumps, valves and the boiler or heat pump wear out sooner and are replaced like any heating equipment. GSAT gives a lifetime warranty on the floor heating pipe it installs.

Part by part

  • Pipe in the screed: protected from sunlight, impact and frost, carrying low-temperature water. Designed to last 50 years or more.
  • Manifold and valves: accessible in a cabinet, serviced or replaced when needed without touching the floor.
  • Pumps, boiler or heat pump: like any heating plant, these have a shorter life and are maintained and replaced over the years.

Does it stay warm after it is switched off?

Yes. A screed floor stores heat, so it keeps giving warmth for several hours after the heating stops. The same mass is why it takes a few hours to warm up from cold.

GSAT warranty

Lifetime on the floor heating pipe installed by GSAT. Boiler rooms, snow melting and ice rinks carry a 2-year installation warranty, and products bought without installation keep their manufacturer warranty.
